    Originally introduced in 1950 as the Broadcaster, the Fender Electric Instrument Company launched a guitar that would kickoff a revolution in guitar manufacturing, lead to the development of the electric bass guitar, and spawned multiple genres of music while remaining a icon in its own right.

    The American Vintage II 1951 Telecaster is a recreation of those original guitars manufactured in Fender's first years, using many of the same machines and methods as they did back when the electric guitar was considered to be "just a fad" by some, and "dangerous" by others.

    An ash body and one piece maple neck are finished in nitrocellulose lacquer, just like the ones in the Dupont catalog in 1951. While the first Broadcasters, Esquires and Telecasters were offered in one finish, today affectionally known as Butterscotch Blonde, the early prototypes were painted in an opaque white.

    Just one year after launching the BroadcasterĀ®, Fender received a cease-and-desist telegram from the Fred Gretsch Mfg. Co. and was faced with renaming its flagship electric guitar. Taking inspiration from the booming growth and expansive reach of television, the first blackguard Telecaster rolled off the line in 1951, and the model has been in continuous production ever since. Deceptively simple and totally groundbreaking, the TelecasterĀ® brought the solid body electric guitar to the masses, inspiring countless musicians along the way.

    The American Vintage II 1951 Telecaster features an ash body. The substantial '51 "U"-shaped hard rock maple neck plays like a dream with a 7.25" radius fingerboard and vintage tall frets. Characteristic of production in 1951, 12thĀ fret face-dot spacing is narrow and the sole Phillips-head fastener on the guitar is at the truss rod nut. The triple brass saddle bridge, single-line "Fender Deluxe" tuners and Pure Vintage '51 Telecaster pickups deliver classic twang and authentic Fender style.

    GLOSS NITROCELLULOSE LACQUER FINISH

    Nitrocellulose lacquer, as used on ā€˜50s and ā€˜60ā€™s Fender instruments, is a premium finish that reveals the instrumentā€™s true tonal character.

    ASH BODY

    Ash is a warm-toned wood with clear, bright highs, defined midrange, focused lows, and a beautiful grain pattern.

    7.25ā€ RADIUS MAPLE FINGERBOARD

    The 7.25ā€-radius fingerboard provides the comfortable playing feel of a vintage instrument, while vintage-tall frets make it easier to bend notes without fretting out.

    1951 ā€œUā€-SHAPE NECK

    In vintage years, the shape and thickness of Fender guitar necks varied tremendously. The American Vintage II Series offers a variety of authentic neck profiles from Fenderā€™s past.

    PURE VINTAGE ā€˜51 TELECASTER PICKUPS

    Specially voiced to reproduce the authentic sound and performance of individual model years, Pure Vintage pickups are constructed just like pickups from Fenderā€™s golden years. Materials include cloth-covered wire, fiber bobbins and alnico magnets.

    VINTAGE-STYLE HARDWARE

    From the bridge to the string tree and tuning machines, every piece of American Vintage II hardware is manufactured to look, sound and function just like it did on the originals. Much of the American Vintage II hardware is still manufactured on the original ā€˜50s and ā€˜60s era Fender factory machines.
